Back-to-school? I don't think so

As I didn't retire until October last year, this is the first Back-to-School September that I'm not part of.

Does that mean that I will no longer have the annual Back-to-School anxiety nightmare the night before school reopens?

It seems NOT.

Last night I had a nightmare that involved me producing a school play. It was opening night and nothing was ready. The kids were running riot and I couldn't keep control. It was almost curtains-up time, all the parents were sitting in the audience awaiting a performance.....and there was none to give them.

I woke up in a bucket of sweat, my heart was thumping and I was on the verge of tears.

For all mu non-teacher friends, this is actually a quite normal reaction to going back to work.

I lay there for a few moments before it finally dawned on me that I had nothing to worry about. I took a few deep, calming breaths....

Just as I instruct a child to do who is on the verge of a meltdown

And then I turned over and went back to sleep.

Best of luck to all my teacher friends who are or have gone back to school this week.

MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR!

Green Fingers?

I am not known for my horticultural expertise. Hey my neighbours have been known to put bouquets of flowers in my hedge in order to brighten the place up.

My garden will be next spring's project.

Any way I went to a wreath making class in the Women's Shed.

Wreaths for doors, not for graves!!!

They were my kinda flowers....artificial. I can't kill those...or can I?

Anyways. it all started great with base and flowers.

After some instruction we were let loose.

It was a bit like Wreath Making for Dummies....exactly what I needed.

I am so proud of my effort.

We were laughing after class saying we would now be able to drive around the parish and find out where each other lives!

I wouldn't say I have green fingers after class, more like hot glue fingers!

Ouch, that stuff is damn hot!

They grow up so fast...

Here is myself and Genevieve at my 40th birthday party. As you can see, Genevieve was heavily pregnant at the time.

In fact, a couple of weeks later she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, Brian.

Last night I went up to Gen's to go out for a few drinks and a catch up. I nearly collapsed
when she said that Brian would be driving us to the pub and would, more importantly bring us home.

How can that be? He can't possibly be old enough to drive yet. Sure he can only be about 10?

Eh, no. Here he is, a young man. Where did those years go?

Day 38: The Long Journey Home

After my only meltdown of the entire holiday, I finally arrived home. Every night during my trip, tucked up in bed, I checked the stat...
