Honesty is the best policy.

I was subbing in my old school for a couple of days. As I departed at home time , (around 3 pm) I decided to take a trip up to the shopping centre in Maynooth.

I mean, God forbid that any extra money I earned would rest in my account for any length of time!

As I was driving through Kilcock (remember it was early afternoon) I was surprised to be stopped at a Garda checkpoint. A young fella who looked no older than the 6th class boys that I had just left, came up to my window and said

"Good afternoon Mam*. We are doing random Drink and Drugs testing. Where are you coming from?"

*MAM! For Feck Sake, now I'm a mam.

I looked at him and replied

"I'm coming from school. I could have done with a drink but I didn't......"He looked at me quizzically,, waved his hand and said

"Fair enough. On you go."

It always pays to tell the truth.
